On Saturday evening, the 36th Bremen Music Festival kicked off with its traditional opening night, »Eine große Nachtmusik«. The festival got underway with 18 concerts at nine different venues around Bremen's market square. Over 8,000 tickets were sold for the concerts, which ranged from classical to jazz to world music. Whether it was Marc Minkowski's Musiciens du Louvre in the Glocke, Alfredo Rodriguez's Hot Cuban Jazz Night in the Forum am Domshof, Il Pomo d'Oro under the baton of Maxim Emelyanychev in the city hall, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir in St. Petri Cathedral, Ida Nielsen & the Funkbots ft. Zap Mama in the courtyard of the Landgericht, or Giorgi Gigashvili in Haus Schütting – the audience was thrilled by the moving live performances and strolled between the venues, which were atmospherically illuminated by Austrian lighting designer Christian Weißkircher, during the breaks between the concerts. After Bremen Zwei and Deutschlandfunk Kultur already covered the opening night live, ARD Radiofestival will broadcast a compilation of the musical journey through different times and cultures on Friday, September 5, starting at 8:00 p.m., with excerpts from the concerts in the Glocke, the cathedral, the town hall, and the courtyard of the University of the Arts.
