Eldbjørg Hemsing
Born in Valdres in southern Norway, Eldbjørg Hemsing studied at the renowned Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and with Professor Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. Her international career took off quickly, leading to four award-winning albums and world premieres of numerous major compositions in many of the world’s greatest concert halls.
The 2024/25 season dees her perform with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Hallé Orchestra under the direction of Kahchun Wong, the Orchestra of St Luke’s at David Geffen Hall in New York, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz. She also returns to long term partners such as the Oslo Philharmonic and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
Recent highlights include performances of Anders Hillborg’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen as well as Rolf Wallin’s Violin Concerto »Whirld« with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and Andris Poga. She has also worked with renowned orchestras such as the Orchestre National d’Île de France and the Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Santtu-Matias Rouvali and performed at the Cartagena Festival.
Recital and chamber music programmes have taken her to the Heidelberger Frühling, the Dresden Music Festival, Bærum in Norway and the USA.
Eldbjørg Hemsing regularly works with orchestras such as the Bergen Philharmonic, the Belgian National Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig and the Shanghai and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras. She is a welcome guest at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Wigmore Hall, the Verbier Festival and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
She has developed a close collaboration with composer Tan Dun, with whom she has premiered and recorded several works.
In February 2023, »Arctic« (Sony Classical) was released with the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra and Christian Kluxen, dedicated to the rich natural soundscapes of the Arctic.
