He studied the piano and composition in Ankara, Düsseldorf and Berlin and in 1995 he won the »Young Concert Artists International Auditions« competition in New York, which marked the beginning of his international career. Turkish pianist Fazıl Say is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating artists on the classical music scene. He has also achieved worldwide success as a composer, with an extensive body of work ranging from solo piano pieces and chamber music to solo concertos and large orchestral works, performed around the globe. In his solo and chamber music performances, he presents works that blend classical, jazz and traditional Ottoman elements into a wholly original and fascinating tapestry, free of stylistic constraints. He was awarded the Musikfest Prize for this in 2008. To celebrate the Musikfest’s 25th anniversary in 2014, he presented the festival with his ballad »Gezi Park 3«, which had its world premiere in the Glocke. In 2019, he premiered his sonata »4 Cities« in Bremen with cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, followed in 2021 by the German premiere of the cello concerto »Şahmeran«. Fazıl Say performs a wide-ranging repertoire all over the world with leading orchestras and conductors. He has a long-standing artistic partnership with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and regularly collaborates with Maxim Vengerov, Marianne Crebassa, the Borusan Quartet and the Minetti Quartet. Fazıl Say has an extensive discography of over 50 CDs. His recordings for Teldec Classics, naïve and Warner have received numerous awards. He has been an exclusive artist with Warner Classics since 2016, and his most recent album, »Morning & Evening«, was released on the label in 2024. He also continues to release his own compositions under his own label, ACM.
