Félicien Brut
He discovered the accordion at an early age and to this day he continues to explore the possibilities of the instrument across genres and without bounds. Félicien Brut was born in Auvergne in 1986 and initially focused mainly on musette music. In 1997, he started studying at the Centre national et international de musique et d’accordéon where he was taught by Jacques Mornet and other renowned teachers. In 2007, he won the three largest international accordion competitions and continued his training at the Pôle Supérieur de Bordeaux-Aquitaine. His repertoire ranges from the masterpieces of the romantic era to the classical concert accordion repertoire from Russia and Northern Europe to popular French chansons and musette. In 2016, he met his idol Richard Galliano: the encounter ultimately led to a project that was to become Félicien Brut’s breakthrough: in 2017 he combined classical music and musette in »Le Pari des Bretelles« together with the Quatuor Hermès and Edouard Macarez. In the meantime, Félicien Brut began teaching at various conservatoires, but gave this up and moved to Paris. Since then, he has worked with musicians such as guitarist Thibaut Garcia, trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary, cellists Anne Gastinel and Christian-Pierre La Marca, pianist Thomas Enhco and violinist Jordan Victoria and has performed with leading orchestras. In addition to the classical repertoire, he promotes contemporary accordion music by commissioning composers. He has hosted ‘Brut d’accordéon’ on France Musique since 2021 and was the first accordionist to sign with Warner Classics/Erato in 2022. His album »J’ai deux amours« was released in October 2022. Both on stage and on CD, Félicien Brut thrills with his unique style. He has been invited to major festivals including La Folle Journée de Nantes, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Festival Radio France Montpellier Occitanie, Festival de Pâques d’Aix-en-Provence, Festival Musiq’3 in Brussels, Les Flâneries Musicales de Reims and Un Violon sur le Sable. Félicien Brut plays a handmade Gadji accordion designed, tuned and maintained by accordion maker Stéphanie Simon.
