Julien Chauvin
Violinist and conductor Julien Chauvin, who studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, specialised in historically informed performance early on. In 2015, he founded Le Concert de la Loge while at the same time continuing his chamber music work with the Quatuor Cambini Paris, which he founded in 2007. He has also conducted opera productions such as Lemoyne’s »Phèdre«, Isouard’s »Cendrillon«, Haydn’s »Armida« and Sacchini’s »Chimène ou Le Cid«. He has been guest conductor for numerous ensembles, including the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Orchestre National d’Avignon-Provence, the Orchestre National de Metz, the Orchestre National de Cannes, the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Limoges, the Esterházy Hofkapelle, the Orkiestra Historyczna from Katowice, the Folger Consort in Washington, Les Violons du Roy in Montreal and the Arion Orchestre Baroque in Montreal.
Together with choreographer Mourad Merzouki and the Compagnie Käfig, Julien Chauvin presented Vivaldi’s »Four Seasons« in an innovative production that combines baroque music with hip-hop dance, which met with great enthusiasm at Musikfest Bremen 2024.
His discography includes works by Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Berlioz, released on labels such as Alpha, Naïve, Eloquentia and Ambroisie. With Le Concert de la Loge, for example, he recorded Haydn’s »Paris Symphonies«, which he combined with works by Parisian composers from that time.
In addition to his concerts, Julien Chauvin is also a dedicated teacher, giving masterclasses at the Paris and Lyon Conservatoires, the École Normale de Musique de Paris and the Paris Opera Academy, among others.
Julien Chauvin was honoured with the title »Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres« and plays a violin by Giuseppe Guadagnini from 1780, which was made available to him through the »Adopt a Musician« project.
