The young German organist Jan Liebermann wins the young musicians’ award »Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk« at the 2025 Musikfest Bremen. Born in Kronach, Upper Franconia, in 2005, the musician impressed the Deutschlandfunk music editorial team and the directors of the Musikfest Bremen with his remarkable maturity and creative energy so much that, for the first time in the history of the award, it will go to an organist.
»Not even 20 years old yet, Jan Liebermann already demonstrates most impressively what is possible on the organ, the most technically demanding of all classical instruments, in terms of musical interpretation. In addition to the fact that he always plays his concerts from memory, he captivates audiences with a virtuosity that, thanks to his energetic yet contemplative and touching playing, leads to sophisticated and technically brilliant interpretations. Jan Liebermann is also very successful on social media, where he is sparking new interest in organ music among a young audience that was previously unfamiliar with the instrument,« the jury explained its decision.
The award ceremony for Jan Liebermann will take place on 2 September 2025 at a private Musikfest reception in the small auditorium of Bremen's concert hall »Die Glocke«.
With the Deutschlandfunk award, Deutschlandfunk and the Musikfest have been supporting talented young artists since 1998. The award includes a CD production and an engagement at the Musikfest Bremen 2026.
