»Bach & Beyond«: music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Francesco Tristano
Johann Sebastian Bach is a cornerstone and continuous source of inspiration for Francesco Tristano. Over 20 years ago, the Thomaskantor’s work marked the start of the Luxembourgish pianist’s career. For his project »Bach & Bexond«, he uses three different approaches to tackling the baroque master: original, transcriptions for piano and remixes for piano and electronics. By using not just the piano, but also synthesisers and other electronic sounds, the pianist, composer and techno fan transports Bach’s music straight into the here and now. As for the kinetic energy of rhythm in Bach and in techno, Tristano, who is based in Spain, is in no doubt: »There would be no techno without Bach. He was the first remix artist«.
