Oorkaan, a production company whose name is an onomatopoeic play on words combining the Dutch words for ear and hurricane, is the only arts organisation in the Netherlands to dedicate itself entirely to concert formats for young audiences. 2026 is a »Crown Year« for Oorkaan: The company as a whole is celebrating its 25th anniversary, while the Oorkaan Ensemble marks its fifth birthday. So it’s no surprise that the crown also plays a starring role in their new programme: In days gone by, there were many kings and queens, each of whom wore a crown. But now only one crown remains – and the three members of the trio have to share it between them. That’s not so easy. Does the crown bestow special powers on its owner? What happens if the crown doesn’t fit? How should a king or queen behave? Director Wieger Meulenbroek uses the crown as a symbol of power to question the status associated with it. Through humorous scenes and beautiful music, the Oorkaan Trio explores what it means to have power and how to use it responsibly…
