Born in Havana in 1975, Roberto Fonseca is widely regarded as one of the most prominent Cuban pianists of his generation. He earned his reputation when he joined the Buena Vista Social Club in 2001, taking over from Rubén Gonzalez, and has performed in over 400 concerts around the world since then. Working alongside legends such as Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo enabled him to study the roots and richness of the Caribbean island’s musical heritage. At the same time, Fonseca’s passion for American jazz was already evident, gaining valuable insights from working alongside stars such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Brian Blade. This explains his unique ability to combine jazz, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, funk and soul with his Afro-Cuban roots in his own compositions like no other. But Roberto Fonseca is one thing above all else: a live act. On stage, he gives it his all, gets everyone on their feet and fills the venue with his exuberant energy. In his trio with bassist Felipe Cabrera and drummer Ruly Herrera, Fonseca delivers masterful performances brimming with energy, wit, and Latin groove!
