Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C major K. 551 »Jupiter«, Great Mass in C minor for soloists, choir and orchestra K. 427
Inspired by Bach and Handel, Mozart’s 1782 Mass in C minor, with its large polyphonic choruses and sweeping virtuoso solo arias, surpassed the scope of his previous sacred compositions. One of the most remarkable mass settings in the history of European music, it remained unfinished, just like the composer’s requiem. When Julien Chauvin founded his Concert de la Loge in 2015, he revived a legendary Parisian orchestra of the late 18th century. Today it is one of Europe’s most innovative and experimental period instrument ensembles. For their performance of Mozart’s mass, they will use the 2019 edition by renowned musicologist Ulrich Leisinger, which contains all the parts set to Music by Mozart, but does not add a newly composed Credo or Agnus Dei, which are missing. With the addition of Mozart’s famous last symphony, this evening lets you experience both a reconstructed sacred fragment by the Salzburg genius as well as his symphonic testament!
