»Karneval des Glücks«: Camille Saint-Saëns’ »The Carnival of the Animals« with texts by Roger Willemsen (in German)

The late Roger Willemsen, who passed away far too young in 2016, was inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns’ »Carnival of the Animals« to write a story full of humour and imagination. The journalist’s characteristic humour, wit and sharp tongue permeate the commentary of personified animals on topics such as religion, eroticism and human rights. Together with Franziska Hölscher and Marianna Shirinyan, Katja Rieman celebrates the musical carnival and Willemsen’s poetry in equal measure. Sometimes funny and lighthearted, sometimes tragic and moving, they contemplate the meaning of life with cheer and wisdom.

Around the market square, nine venues will each host two 45-minute concerts in three time slots. All venues have two shared intervals for spontaneous encounters and stimulating exchanges. Individual tickets can be booked for each event at a standard price of 33 euros, so you can choose for yourself whether you would like to attend one, two or three concerts to start off the festival!
