Il Pomo d’Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev already set a high bar with their first all-Mozart concert at the last Musikfest. According to the Weser Kurier »you would like to be able to commit every nuance of Emelyanychev performance to memory – because it’s just so good« and for klassik.com it was »an exceptionally impressive concert that was probably one of the highlights of the festival«. Now the period instrument ensemble and its director continue their Mozart journey. They remain true to the idea behind their continuing recordings of all 41 symphonies, each time juxtaposing an early and a late symphony. Mozart composed the 11th Symphony at the tender age of 14 on his triumphant first Italian journey, while the passionate drama of the 38th Symphony caused a furore when the work premiered in Prague in 1787. The composer’s success in the Czech metropolis was also thanks to his performance on the piano, so it is only natural that Maxim Emelyanychev will once again prove himself an equally brilliant pianist. The sophisticated Piano Concerto No 20, characterised by its interplay between soloist and orchestra presents the perfect challenge!
