Programme:
Music by Astor Piazzolla and Richard Galliano as well as chansons by Michel Legrand, Barbara et al.

When it comes to accordion, Richard Galliano is the quintessential icon! It is after all thanks to him that the instrument has regained prominence. He has worked with everyone from Chet Baker and Ron Carter to Wynton Marsalis, Juliette Gréco, Charles Aznavour and Michel Legrand. But the encounter that influenced him the most was arguably Astor Piazolla, who encouraged him to immerse himself in the traditions of his native France in 1980. This is how Richard Galliano invented the »New Musette«, freeing accordion music from traditionalism and modernising it by combining it with blues, tango and jazz– just like Piazolla did with his »Tango Nuevo«. In »New York Tango Trio« Richard Galliano explores the shared identity of jazz, tango and musette together with guitarist Adrien Moignard and bassist Diego Imber. With his announcement that he will »play each concert in a completely free manner, sometimes departing from the score, but never far from the soul of the composer« he pays a very personal tribute to his Argentinian mentor.
