Programm:
Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 20 in A major D 959
Claude Debussy: »Des pas sur la neige« and »La cathédrale engloutie« from »Préludes« (volume 1)
Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No. 8 in B major Op. 84

Someone is really making waves right now: Lukas Sternath, born in Vienna in 2001, had his breakthrough when he was awarded first prize as well as seven special prizes at the ARD Music competition in Munich in 2022. Since then, the pianist has already made his debut in some of Europe’s most famous concert venues, with more in the pipeline. It can be hard to live up to such high expectations and cope with the pressure that comes with them, but Lukas Sternath seems to have what it takes! Not only because Igor Levit is one of his mentors, but also because his combined technical brilliance and intuitive creativity prove that artistic maturity is not a question of age. With Schubert’s great Sonata in A major, written shortly before his untimely death in 1828, Sternath can demonstrate his dynamic versatility, whereas Debussy’s Préludes bring out his talent to paint sensitive, delicate brushstrokes with sound. Prokofiev’s Eighth Piano Sonata in turn is a haunting work full of extreme contrasts, from lyrical, dreamy sounds to powerful, soaring passages.
