Music from the latest album »Street of Minarets« et al.
Tunisian-born singer, composer and virtuoso on the Arabic short-neck lute, the oud, Dhafer Youssef embraces all kinds of musical influences. He combines oriental Sufi music with jazz, rock, electro, classical and Arabic music, topping these experimental sounds off with his highly versatile voice, which ranges several octaves. On his latest album »Street of Minarets«, he embarks on a musical journey between Orient and Occident, mixing Arabic folklore with funk and 1980s fusion. In doing so, he builds bridges between cultures rather than limiting himself to labels or genres. With his constant soaring, almost mystical voice and his masterful oud skills, he creates deeply spiritual and emotional, almost magical moments. The mesmerising, beautiful expanses of sound he invokes move between melancholic, atmospheric and ethereal to fiery and funky, but always profoundly sensual and poetic.
