Programme:
Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto Madrigalesco in D minor RV 129, Concerto for organ and violin in D minor RV 541 (excerpts), Cantata »Cessate, omai cessate« RV 684 (excerpt), Concerto in D minor RV 565, Arias from »Argippo« RV 697 and »Il Farnace« RV 711, Concerto in G minor RV 157 and Nisi Dominus RV 608

In addition to the majority of his instrumental music, Antonio Vivaldi also composed several sacred works for the Ospedale della Pietà. For several decades starting in 1703, the composer kept up an intimate connection to this Venetian charitable institution for orphans. At the same time, he was at the centre of the flourishing opera business in the city on the lagoon as an impresario. With »Viva Vivaldi«, Alois Mühlbacher and the Ensemble Pallidor shed light on both of these facets. The programme is centred around the fiercely virtuosic psalm setting »Nisi Dominus«, an explosion of contrasting emotions and tempers. The perfect opportunity for the former solo treble of the St. Florian’s Boys Choir to let his versatile exquisite countertenor shine. Add a few of Vivaldi’s opera arias, and Alois Mühlbacher’s distinctive voice will bring out wealth of colours. The Pallidor Ensemble completes the programme with a selection of virtuoso instrumental concertos, making clear once again why Venice’s reputation as a city of music is inextricably entwined with the name Vivaldi to this day.
