Programme:
Johannes Brahms: Academic Festival Overture Op. 80
Richard Wagner: final aria of Brünnhilde from »Götterdämmerung«
Richard Strauss: Symphonic Fantasy from »Die Frau ohne Schatten« and final aria from »Salome«

It goes without saying that the Musikfest will join in the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Bremen Philharmonic: with a guest performance by world renowned Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund. Coming from a lyric-dramatic background, she has gradually – yes, it is possible – mastered the high dramatic roles in Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. Not a shift, but rather an expansion, as she makes clear herself: »I always sing with my own voice and don’t try to somehow make it sound bigger or darker«. Brünnhilde and Salome – these are the central operatic heroines in her Bremen debut. One lets herself be burned on a funeral pyre after the suffering that the Ring of the Nibelung has brought upon everyone, the other takes revenge because her romantic hopes and fantasies were harshly rejected by the prophet Jochanaan. With Brahms, Wagner and Strauss, the Bremen Philharmonic and General Music Director Marco Letonja not only pay homage to three heroes of their repertoire, but also create a hypnotising, intoxicating canopy of sound for Camilla Nylund to bring her heroines to life!
