Bart Jacobs, born in 1976, studied organ, harpsichord and basso continuo with Reitze Smits and Chris Verhelst ion Leuven/ Belgium and graduated summa cum laude with a Master’s degree. Between 2006 and 2010, he achieved success in international organ competitions. He has been titular organist at the Brussels cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula since 2012. As a soloist and continuo player, Bart Jacobs has performed with many renowned ensembles, such as Vox Luminis, Les Muffatti, Il Gardellino, Currende, the Hathor Consort and Psallentes.
As well as accompanying numerous ensembles, Bart Jacobs’ extensive discography includes solo works for organ and harpsichord. As Organist for Vox Luminis, he has been honoured with the Choc de Classica, Gramophone Editors Choice, ffff de Télérama and the German Record Critics' Award, among others. A passionate devotee of Johann Sebastian Bach's music, his recording of his own reconstructions of Bach concertos for organ and strings, recorded with the baroque orchestra Les Muffatti, won him the most highly coveted awards at home and abroad, including the Diapason d'or de l'année 2019 and the award for the best Belgian CD 2019 from Klara. His recording »Recommended by Bach«, released in 2022 and played on the new Contius organ in Leuven, also received high praise.
Bart Jacobs teaches organ and harpsichord at the Academy of Music in Bornem, Belgium, and at the Luca School of Arts in Leuven.
