Igor Levit is an extraordinary personality, both as a world-renowned pianist and as a political activist. According to the New York Times he combines »superb technical skill, an exceptionally refined sound and a deep insight into the repertoire«, in short, he is »one of the essential artists of his generation«. The 53 house concerts he streamed on Twitter during the lockdown in the spring of 2020, resonated with people across the globe. In the autumn of 2022, Igor Levit was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for these house concerts as a symbol of hope and solidarity in times of isolation and despair as well as for his commitment against antisemitism. In October 2022 the feature length documentary »Igor Levit – No Fear« premiered in German cinemas.

Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Igor Levit moved to Germany with his family at the age of eight. He completed his piano studies in Hanover with the highest grades in the history of the institute. Igor Levit is Gramophone Classical Music Awards' Artist of the Year 2020, Music America's Recording Artist of the Year 2020 and winner of the Gilmore Artist Award 2018. In June 2022, his album "On DSCH" received both the Recording of the Year Award and the Instrumental Award from BBC Music Magazine.

He was appointed professor of piano at his Alma Mater, the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. As of spring 2022, Igor Levit is co-artistic director of the Heidelberger Frühling International Music Festival. He also founded the multi day »Piano Fest« together with the Lucerne Festival, which took place for the second time in May 2024.

In the 2023/24 season, Igor Levit has recitals at the Musikverein Vienna, the Berlin Philharmonie, La Scala Milan, Carnegie Hall New York, Wigmore Hall London and in Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, Montréal and Toronto, among others. Highlights in his orchestral calendar are two concert cycles - a Bartók cycle with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and a Brahms cycle with the Vienna Philharmonic. He will also be touring Europe with the Vienna Philharmonic and performing at the Mozart Week in Salzburg. Further orchestral tours in the 2023/24 season include the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Berlin Baroque Soloists. He will make guest appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. With his long-standing colleagues Markus Becker, Renaud Capuçon and Julia Hagen, he presents trio and duo concerts at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, in Berlin, London, Munich and Vienna.
