Sven-Eric Bechtolf
He is known for his television appearances as Henri Nannen in the ARD two-parter »Alice« (2022), as Inspector Dupin in »Bretonische Nächte« (2022) and several appearances in »Tatort« and »Polizeiruf«. For his stage performances, he has won the Nestroy Theatre Prize for Best Actor of the year twice as well as the Albin Skoda Ring. Austria honoured him with the Cross of Merit for Art and Science for his work as a theatre director and as artistic director of the Salzburg Festival. Sven-Eric Bechtolf, born in Darmstadt in 1957 and educated at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, has been a mainstay of German-language stage and screen for decades. In addition to long-term engagements at the Vienna Burgtheater, he has appeared as an actor at the Salzburg Festival, the Ruhr-Triennale and the Almeide Theatre London, to name but a few. As a director, he has worked for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Thalia Theatre Hamburg, Festival Grec and Festival Sitges Barcelona, Zurich Opera House, the Vienna and Berlin State Operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala Milan and the Theater an der Wien. Sven-Eric Bechtolf is also the author of the 2007 book »Vorabend. Eine Aneignung«, an exploration of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, and the novel »Nichts bleibt so, wie es wird«, published in 2019.
