Wednesday , 04.09.24 - 7:30 pm

Programme:
Works by Anton Bruckner, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauß, Balduin Sulzer e.a.

Famous for their inimitable sound, the St. Florian Boy’s Choir is one of the world’s oldest boy’s choirs. Founded in 1701 in the Upper Austrian Monastery, several illustrious musicians have emerged from its ranks – including the composer Anton Bruckner. On the occasion of his 200th birthday on 4 September 2024, the choir celebrates one of its history’s most famous members. Alois Mühlbacher joins the choir for this serenade. The former St. Florian chorister already caused a sensation as a soprano soloist and today he is in demand the world over as a countertenor thanks to his astoundingly flexible and nuanced voice. In addition to works by Anton Bruckner, including his motets »Locus iste« and »Os justi«, their programme focuses on composers who were of particular influence to him, such as Franz Schubert, whom he fervently admired throughout his life, and Johann Strauß. As Bruckner also enjoyed frequenting taverns, the St. Florian Boys' Choir also pay tribute to his love of folk music and present works that they are convinced Bruckner would have enjoyed - happy birthday, Anton!
