Programme:
Lili Boulanger: D’un soir triste
Robert Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor op. 129
Hector Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique op. 14
In 2023, the Deutschlandfunk together with the Musikfest Bremen awarded their Förderpreis to the German-Italian conductor Nicolò Foron – a remarkable talent! At the age of eleven, he was already a pupil of the legendary Jorma Panula. He studied in Amsterdam and London, where he was named Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra after winning the 17th Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition in 2023. Now the laureate will take on the baton for the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, a spectacular stroke of genius around »episodes in the life of an artist«, makes the listener experience the highs and lows of love and death, of exuberant festive moods and the wild dance in hell. Anastasia Kobekina, who was born in Yekatarinburg and has lived in Germany since 2012, tests the orchestra’s strength as their equal with her breathtaking virtuosity and technique in Schumann’s Cello Concerto. The opener: Lili Boulanger's "D'un soir triste", the last work by the incredibly talented composer born in 1893. With its rich instrumental colours, it reflects her dark premonition of approaching death at the age of just 24 in 10 minutes of gripping music – incredibly moving!
