Programme:
English lute songs by John Dowland and Henry Purcell
Crowned »Singer of the Year« at the 2022 »Opus Klassik« awards, the French-Italian mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre is adored by audiences and the darling of opera houses and festivals the world over, such as Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence. She enthrals with her crystal-clear, rich, agile voice and her natural charisma. A committed chamber musician, Desandre often teams up with lutenist Thomas Dunford and his spirited Jupiter Ensemble. The hand-picked members have a vivid and powerful style while at the same time managing to conjure up an intense atmosphere of ethereal sounds out of nothing. »Songs of passion« is a double portrait dedicated to the grand master of British Baroque Henry Purcell and John Dowland, famous for his emotional and melancholy laments. The latter’s iconic songs such as »Come again« and »Flow my tears« meet moving arias by the former, from »The Fairy Queen« and »Dido and Aeneas« – mind-blowingly beautiful!
