The four Impromptus D 899 are among Schubert&#8217;s best-known piano works and depict his inner turmoil, bursting with early romantic sentiment. The Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor and the Ballade No. 4 in F minor are undoubtedly among the highlights of Chopin&#8217;s rich oeuvre. And the diabolical character of the eponymous hero of Lizst&#8217;s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 is brilliantly expressed in the piano version, transcribed by the composer himself.
