Verdict: The 35th Musikfest Bremen was a complete success!

The quality of the performances delighted the audiences, with more visitors than last year

The Metropole Orkest and Cory Henry under the baton of Jules Buckley brought the 35th Musikfest Bremen to a close with a brilliant free open-air concert on Bremen's market square on Saturday evening in glorious late summer weather, paying homage to Stevie Wonder. Before the final note had even been struck, Artistic Director Professor Thomas Albert and Managing Director Jörg Ehntholt could already take stock with a sense of satisfaction: ‘A sparkling line-up of artistic highlights, beaming faces and an overwhelmingly positive feedback from the press make for a year that will go down as one of the most successful in the annals of the Musikfest. Ahead of the final tally, it is clear that around 24,700 visitors attended this year's festival, which had a total capacity of 26,773 seats. This means that the 46 events in Bremen and the north-west, 18 of which were sold out, attracted 1,200 more visitors than last year. We therefore achieved an overall occupancy of 92 per cent, which is an increase of four per cent compared to the previous year. If you add the approximately 5,000 visitors to the open-air event on the market square, this year's Musikfest Bremen can report almost 30,000 visitors. The Musikfest programme has also become more attractive to younger audiences: The take-up of €6 tickets for children and young people up to and including the age of 18 has increased significantly this year compared to last year. Commenting on the financial picture, Managing Director Jörg Ehntholt says: ‘The final accounts for the total production costs are of course not yet available, but according to the current forecasts we are within budget and Musikfest Bremen gGmbH will therefore be able to report a break-even balance at the end of the year’.
