Alexander Melnikov
Alexander Melnikov is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under Lev Naumov. His most formative musical experiences include his encounters with Svjatoslav Richter, who regularly invited him to his festivals in Russia and France. Melnikov has won prizes at major competitions such as the International Robert Schumann Competition (1989) and the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth in Brussels (1991). He has long been interested in historically informed performance and fosters close relations with renowned early music ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester, musicAeterna, B’Rock and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. In the 2024/25 season, Alexander Melnikov continues his remarkable career with many high-profile projects: he is Artist in Residence at the Wiener Konzerthaus, plays with acclaimed orchestras in Japan, the USA and Europe and continues his artistic collaboration with long-standing chamber music partners such as Isabelle Faust, Antoine Tamestit, Alexei Lubimov, Olga Pashchenko, Mikhail Shilyaev and Jean-Guihen Queyras. He also performs solo concerts in top venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Cologne Philharmonie and the Auditorium de Lyon, as well as in cities such as Prague, Madrid, Yokohama (Philia Hall) and Tokyo (Toppan Hall).
