Alois Mühlbacher
Alois Mühlbacher first caught international attention with a number of spectacular CD releases (including Queen of the Night, Zerbinetta and songs by Gustav Mahler), which led to major engagements: At the age of 15, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera as the Young Shepherd in the opera »Tannhäuser« conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and as Oberto in Handel’s »Alcina« under the baton of Marc Minkowksi. He toured and enjoyed great success as a soprano soloist in concert venues around the world with the St. Florian’s Boy Choir, with whom he still feels a close connection. Altogether his artistic career was greatly influenced by the »Boy Choir Family« in St. Florian. He was not just their star and poster boy, but also a reliable and loyal member of the illustrious choir for many years. His career continued almost seamlessly as a countertenor: With his remarkably versatile and nuanced voice, Alois Mühlbacher has demonstrated time and again that he can perform not just early music as a countertenor. Today, he performs with acclaimed ensembles (e.g. Musiciens du Louvre, Ensemble 1700, Wiener Akademie) in major concert venues as well as opera houses such as La Scala in Milan. He has performed Bach’s great vocal works several times in Vienna and in churches and concert venues in Europe and America as an alto soloist. In 2023, he founded the ensemble Pallidor together with Franz Farnberger, where they perform together with exceptional specialists in baroque music.
