Ensemble Il Caravaggio
Led by Camille Delaforge, the ensemble Il Caravaggio is devoted to the Baroque and Classical opera repertoire. The period instrument ensemble collaborates with exceptional young singers and is fiercely committed to the theatricality, expressiveness and spirituality of its namesake. A special focus of Il Caravaggio is the rediscovery of forgotten musical treasures. Each year the ensemble dedicates itself to the work of overlooked female composers, including Isabella Leonarda, Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Mademoiselle Duval, whose opera »Les Génies« they recorded at the Opéra de Versailles.
Il Caravaggio is orchestra in residence at the Festival de Saint-Denis, Festival Baroque de Pontoise, the Singer-Polignac Foundation and at several venues in the Île-de-France region. They regularly perform in the top French venues and are also in demand internationally, for example at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, in Geneva, Bilbao and elsewhere. In the 2024/2025 season, Il Caravaggio will stage performances of André Campra’s »Le Carnaval de Venise« at the Opéra de Rennes, the Opéra de Compiègne, the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing and Théâtre de Cornouaille, among others. Camille Delaforge and the ensemble Il Caravaggio also released a brilliant recording of Rameau’s »Pigmalion« (Chateau Versailles).
Il Caravaggio is supported by the French Ministry of Culture (DRAC Île-de-France), the Île-de-France Region, the Caisse des Dépôts and the Orange Foundation.
