Kandace Springs
She is considered one of the contemporary jazz and soul scene’s most exciting voices: born in Nashville in 1989, American singer and pianist Kandace Springs captivates with her remarkable alto voice from the very first note. None other than Prince raved »she has a voice that could melt snow« after hearing Kandace Springs’ cover of Sam Smith’s »Stay With Me«. In 2014, he invited the young singer and pianist to join him in Paisley Park – for the 30th anniversary of »Purple Rain« – and became her mentor. It was a key moment in the musician’s career and was quickly followed by signing with Blue Note Records and the release of her debut album »Soul Eyes« in 2016. Tours through Europe and the USA followed, as well as the albums »Indigo« (2018) and »The Women Who Raised Me« (2020), then came the pandemic and Kandace Springs returned to her second great passion: Collecting and restoring classic cars saved her through difficult times, including the death of her father. Kandace Springs grew up surrounded by music. Her father, Kenneth »Scat« Springs, was a sought-after studio singer who introduced her to the music of great artists such as Nina Simone, Norah Jones and Roberta Flack and encouraged her to play the piano. »He opened the door for me to a whole musical world – I went in and I’ve never left,« says Kandace Springs, whose 2024 album »Run Your Race« is a tribute to her father and »absolutely the most personal album I’ve ever made – or probably ever will make.«
