Kaspars Putninš
Latvian conductor Kaspars Putniņš first studied at the Latvian Academy of Music in Riga and completed in studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. His foremost goal has been to promote new outstanding choral music, and to that aim he has forged close relationships with composers such as Maija Einfelde, Toivo Tulev and Lasse Thoresen. Kaspars Putniņš was awarded the Latvian Music Grand Prix, Latvia’s top music award, back in 1998. In 2018, he was honoured with a Diapason d’Or for his recording of Arvo Pärt’s Magnificat and Schnittke’s Penitential Psalms, which he recorded with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Putniņš has been Chief Conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir since 1994, was Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir from 2014 to 2021, has held the same positions with the Swedish Radio Choir since then and has also been Artistic Director of the Latvian Radio Choir since 2024. As a sought-after guest conductor, Kaspars Putniņš works with leading choirs such as the RIAS Chamber Choir, SWR Vokalensemble, Collegium Vocale Gent, Danish National Vocal Ensemble & Choir, Netherlands Radio Choir, NDR Vokalensemble, Flemish Radio Choir, Polish Chamber Choir and others.
