Le Concert de la Loge
In January 2015, Julien Chauvin founded the period instrument ensemble Concert de la Loge Olympique – with the ambition of reviving an essential chapter in French music history. The historic orchestra of the same name was then considered one of the finest in Europe and became famous for commissioning Joseph Haydn’s Paris Symphonies.
Today the ensemble has performed several opera productions, has a flexible line-up and covers a broad repertoire ranging from the Baroque to music from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.
One of Julien Chauvin’s aims in founding a »modern« Concert de la Loge Olympique is to explore new forms of concerts, harking back to the spontaneity of late-eighteenth practice, which intermingled different genres and artists, while also establishing links with other artistic disciplines.
Following an objection from the French National Olympic and Sports Committee against the use of the adjective »Olympic«, the ensemble was forced to change its name to Le Concert de la Loge in June 2016.
Le Concert de la Loge regularly works with renowned soloists such as Karina Gauvin, Sandrine Piau, Philippe Jaroussky, Marina Viotti, Andreas Staier, Justin Taylor and Marie-Nicole Lemieux. Julien Chauvin directs the ensemble from the violin, shaping its signature sound and style.
After various releases with Aparté and Naïve, the ensemble began a new collaboration with the Alpha label in 2021, focussing on Mozart’s last three symphonies. These recordings have been critically acclaimed and won several awards such as Diapason d’or, BBC Choice, Gramophone Award, Diamant d’Opéra Magazine, Choc Classica, Le Monde, ffff Télérama and the Grand Prix Charles Cros.
The ensemble is supported by the Ministère de la Culture, the Ville de Paris, the Region Île-de-France, Fondation Société Générale C’est vous l’avenir and Aline Foriel-Destezet. They are resident ensemble at the Jean-Baptiste Lully Conservatory in Puteaux and at the Lycée Jacques Decour in Paris. It is also an associate artist in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac, as well as an associate ensemble at the Auditorium du Louvre. They are also resident ensemble at the Festival of Saint-Denis and are supported for two years by DRAC Île-de-France. In 2021, the ensemble began a four-year cross-residency with the Association pour le Développement des Activités Musicales dans l’Aisne (ADAMA) and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.
