The opening night on 16 August around the market square
18 concerts, 9 venues and 3 time slots on a single evening – we guarantee variety, especially at the festival’s much-loved opening night „Eine grosse Nachtmusik“! The 36th Musikfest Bremen kicks off with this edition on Saturday, 16 August, starting at 7pm around the market square. An eclectic mix of different eras and genres promises alluring sounds of all kinds, from opulent to intimate, from angelic to groovy. These exquisite and diverse performances will once again be crowned by the atmospheric illuminations of lighting artist Christian Weißkircher, which will envelop the festivities around Bremen’s UNESCO World Heritage City Hall and Roland statue in a bright and radiant glow!
The audience is spoilt for choice and can decide whether to attend one, two or three concerts to suit their individual taste. Les Musiciens du Louvre and their conductor Marc Minkowski, who first appeared at the Musikfest 30 years ago, will perform in the large auditorium of the Glocke. With Georges Bizet and Jacques Offenbach, they will spotlight two composers who set new standards in 19th century France. In the St. Petri Cathedral, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will perform masterpieces of a cappella choral music by Sergei Rachmaninov and Arvo Pärt, while in the Church of Our Lady The Breathtaking Collective and Cappella Mariana will bring music from Milan from the time of the Spanish viceroys back to life. Il Pomo d'Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev will present a wide-ranging selection of famous concerti grossi by Corelli, Handel & Co. in the City Hall, while pianist Giorgi Gigashvili will make his Musikfest debut in Haus Schütting with works by Chopin, Brahms and Prokofiev. There is also plenty of room for sounds of the beaten classical track: In the inner courtyard of the HfK, the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio will present its very own mix of jazz, soul, funk and R'n'B and in the State Parliament building, accordionist Félicien Brut, guitarist Thibaut Garcia and trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary will go in search of chanson, fandango, musical and tango. In the inner courtyard of the Forum am Domshof, the Alfredo Rodriguez Quintet invites you to a „Hot Cuban Jazz Night“ and in the courtyard of the District Courthouse, bassist Ida Nielsen and her Funkbots move between rock, funk, hip-hop, neo-soul, reggae and world music.
