Äneas Humm (© Maurice Haas)
Swiss baritone Äneas Humm is one of the most promising young talents on the international classical music scene. Born in 1995, he began his training with the Zurich Boys' Choir and continued at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory. At the age of 18, he began his studies at the University of the Arts Bremen and graduated from the Juilliard School New York in 2019. This was followed by engagements at the theatres of Weimar, Karlsruhe and St. Gallen and debuts at the Hamburg State Opera, the Theater an der Wien and the Lucerne Festival. In the autumn of 2023, he was invited back to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and excelled as Agrippa in John Adams' »Antony and Cleopatra«. He also made his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. Äneas Humm has already delighted audiences and the press on many occasions, for example as Papageno, Nardo, Roberto, Guglielmo and Masetto in Mozart operas and in the title roles of Purcell's »Dido and Aeneas«, Monteverdi's »Orfeo« and Blow's »Venus and Adonis«, as Harry in Loewe's »My Fair Lady«, as Harlequin in Strauss' »Ariadne auf Naxos« or as Malatesta in Donizetti's »Don Pasquale«, to name but a few. During his studies, Äneas Humm already tried his hand at Lied singing in the major New York concert halls, and has been performing with us regularly since 2018 with artists such as Judit Polgar and Renate Rohlfing. He is a highly sought-after guest at international festivals and has also enjoyed success with his albums to date. In 2018, he received the Deutschlandfunk Prize at the Musikfest Bremen. In October 2022, he was honoured with the OPUS Klassik as Young Singer of the Year for his album »Embrace«.
