Programme:
Works by Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Charles Ives e.a.
The author Hermann Allmers (1821-1902), who was born in Rechtenfleth, became known as the »Marshland Poet« in Germany during his lifetime. He mainly wrote about the culture and landscape of his home region, but through his explorations of distant lands, he was also a cosmopolitan traveller between north and south, town and country. On all of his journeys he sought contact with writers, artists and scientists, as testified in over 11,000 letters in his estate. After a long sojourn to Italy in 1860, he had his parent’s farmhouse on the dyke redesigned with the help of artist friends such as Dietrich Kropp and Arthur Fitger. Ever since, the Hermann Allmers house with its thatched roof is nestled picturesquely in an enchanted garden. Immerse yourself in the late romantic universe of Allmers at a summer fete with music, literature, art and culinary delights! In the form of a promenade concert, performances in the Kulturscheune (Culture Barn), in the garden and in impressive rooms such as the Antiken- and Marschensaal (Hall of Antiquities and Marshland Hall) will reawaken his vision that home and abroad are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary.
