Lehmanns Brothers (© Julien Philips)
In 2012, five music students in Angoulême in south-west France chose a garage in the Avenue Lehmann as their rehearsal space and also as the inspiration for their band's name: the Lehmanns Brothers, who have devoted themselves wholly to a revival of jazz, funk and Afrobeat, enriched with influences from rap, hip-hop, neo-soul and house. Their original songs are characterised by an energetic sound with explosive, groovy rhythms. Influenced by James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest and inspired by funk artists such as Prince, Ghost-Note and D'Angelo, the young Frenchmen want to revive the famous jazz-funk of the seventies - in a contemporary way, of course. As the support act for Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Electro Deluxe and the Wu-Tang Clan, they already made a lasting impression on audiences, leading to appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Blues-sur-Seine near Paris and the Bremen Jazzahead, among others. After four EP releases, they released their new album »Playground« in January 2024, which continues to spread the unforgettable sound of the Lehmanns Brothers around the world.
