Lukas Sternath's life has revolved around music from a very early age. Born in Vienna in 2001, he travelled the world as a chorister with the Vienna Boys’ Choir and performed on the great European, North American and Asian concert stages. His piano studies were with Anna Malikova and Alma Sauer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2022, he was accepted to the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, where he studies in Igor Levit’s class.

Lukas Sternath caused a sensation at the 71st International ARD Music Competition in Munich in September 2022 - in addition to first prize, he took seven special prizes, including the Audience Prize and the prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned composition. The young pianist had already won several prizes at the piano competitions in Bolzano, Dortmund and Bremen the previous year.

Last season, Lukas Sternath made his recital debut at the Musikverein Vienna and his debuts with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic. In the 2023/24 season, he will make his debut in the recital series at the Flagey in Brussels, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Lingotto in Turin and the Tonhalle Zurich, among others. Other highlights of the season include a tour with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Jakub Hrůša to Hamburg and Cologne, performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Academy under the direction of Tugan Sohkiev and recital appearances at the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Heidelberger Frühling International Music Festival.

Nominated by the Musikverein Wien and Konzerthaus Wien as well as the Philharmonie du Luxembourg, Lukas Sternath was chosen as the ECHO Rising Star of the 2024/25 season in spring 2023.
