He has been the titular organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris for almost 40 years now: the French organist Olivier Latry, a virtuoso on his instrument, has established himself as one of the world’s leading ambassadors for the organ. At the age of twelve, he switched from piano lessons to the organ. He studied organ and composition and was the organist of Meaux Cathedral for four years before moving to the Great Organ of Notre-Dame in 1985. In 1990, he succeeded his teacher Gaston Litaize as professor at the Conservatoire in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés and three years later he took up his professorship at the Paris Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique. In addition to working as an organist and teacher in Paris, Olivier Latry has travelled the world as a concert organist. He has performed with leading orchestras under renowned conductors, made recordings for major labels and premiered an impressive number of works, including by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pascal Dusapin and Thierry Escaich. As well as being a master performer of existing works, the recipient of many international accolades and prizes also enthrals audiences with his exceptional talent for improvisation.
