Programme
Johann Strauss: »Die Fledermaus«, comic operetta in three acts (concertante)
First performed at the Theater an der Wien in 1874, Johann Strauss’ »Fledermaus« is one of the most famous operettas ever. With its mix of word play, schadenfreude and grandiose arias, this amorous comedy of errors holds up a mirror to society. The audience, however, never feels like they are the ones being made fun of – after all it’s always »the others«, never themselves! The story is simple: to take revenge on his friend Eisenstein, Dr. Falke invites him to a soirée at Count Orlofsky’s house. During the extravagant party, all protagonists are drawn into a maelstrom of intrigue and lies, and things get completely out of hand... The work is in the best of hands with Marc Minkowski, his Musiciens du Louvre and an excellent cast of vocalists. The lively melodies with their satirical and enigmatic texts unfold a sparkling charm in which biting mockery and critical sting are masterfully balanced. After acclaimed performances in Madrid and Paris, this production is now coming to Bremen and guarantees a funny and at the same time profound evening full of rousing, festive waltz rhythms!
