At the opening of the 2018 Musikfest, Tenebrae already confirmed its reputation as one of England’s best professional choirs: Crystal clear vocals with flawless intonation, balance and homogeneity allow the audience to experience both the power and the intimacy of the human voice at its best. Now the ensemble returns to Bremen with an exquisitely crafted collection of musical farewell pieces, mixing iconic choral works from the 19th century with contemporary music. With the eponymous work »A Prayer for Deliverance«, the American composer Joel Thompson responds to the unrest during the Covid pandemic and the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in the USA. The second half features Herbert Howell’s a capella requiem, surely one of the most moving works in the English choral repertoire. This promises to be a deeply moving evening of songs about sleep, farewell and death, giving Tenebrae the welcome opportunity to move listeners through the power and intimacy of the human voice alone!
