Alessandro Quarta
Alessandro Quarta is the founder and conductor of vocal and instrumental ensemble Concerto Romano, which specialises in Italian and in particular Roman repertoire of the 16th to 19th centuries. He mainly performs in Italy, but his concerts also take him to Austria, Germany and Mexico, the Benelux countries, Switzerland and the USA. He has worked with several ensembles as a conductor and harpsichordist, including the Boston Early Music Festival Ensemble, the Consortium Carissimi in Minneapolis, the Progetto Syntagma and the Darmstädter Barocksolisten. Alessandro Quartta is passionate about sharing his knowledge and skills and works as a conductor and coach for ensembles such as Blue Heron in Boston, Voces Suaves in Basel, the Orchestra barocca nazionale dei Conservatori Italiani, the Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg and the Arnold Schönberg Choir in Vienna. He is a lecturer in Early Music Ensemble Playing at the Conservatorio E. F. Dall’Abaco in Verona and teaches at the International Early Music Courses of FIMA (Fondazione Italiana per la Musica Antica), of which he became president in 2022.
His performances and CD recordings have received stellar reviews and have been honoured with the Prix Caecilia and Diapason d’or awards, among others.
