Deutschlandfunk Award goes to Katharina Morin

Katharina Morin wins the young musician’s award »Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk« at the 2026 Musikfest Bremen. Born in 1994, the conductor impressed the Deutschlandfunk music editors and the organizers of the Musikfest Bremen with her insightful interpretations, nuanced approach, and natural charisma.

»With her conducting, Katharina Morin creates a space for the musicians to express themselves freely and interact mindfully. She manages, seemingly effortlessly, to blend the orchestra, choir and vocal soloists into a cohesive ensemble. Calm yet highly focused, composed yet invigorating, she guides the musicians through the works. She has a gift for swiftly and precisely fine-tuning the sound and composition with apparent ease. She is equally at home with choral works, symphonic music and, increasingly, opera,« the jury explained its decision.

The award ceremony for Katharina Morin will take place on 23. August 2026 at Bremen's concert hall »Die Glocke«.

With the Deutschlandfunk award, Deutschlandfunk and the Musikfest have been supporting talented young artists since 1998. The award includes a CD production and a concert at the Musikfest Bremen 2027.
