The American singer Kurt Elling has been described by the New York Times as »the standout male jazz vocalist of our time«. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award 16 times and won twice. He is also a frequent recipient of the Downbeat award for best jazz singer of the year. A consummate entertainer, he follows in the footsteps of classic crooners such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, using his versatile baritone voice with deep emotion and technical assurance. He joins forces with the hr-Big Band, which already proved its reputation as one of the world’s finest of its kind at the Musikfest with Tania Maria, Lisa Simone and Sheléa. Together, they will perform standards from the Great American Songbook and compositions by renowned jazz musicians, for which Elling has written his own lyrics. Backed by the rich sound of the hr-Big Band, Elling will once again prove that he is a master of fast-paced scat acrobatics, subtly nuanced vocals, and sensitive ballads – jazz at its best!
