18. September 2026The 37th Musikfest Bremen was a resounding success!
The artistic quality impressed, audience turnout was once again very high
On Friday evening, the 37th Musikfest Bremen came to a close at Bremen’s Konzerthaus »Die Glocke« with a final highlight: a sold-out concert conducted by Sir Simon Rattle with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Shortly after the final note had faded away, Artistic Director Professor Thomas Albert and Managing Director Norbert Kölle reflected on the festival, expressing their great satisfaction: »It was a memorable festival, with artistic performances of the highest quality that were received with enthusiasm by both the audience and the press. The numerous programmes and line-ups with unique selling points within the German-speaking world have sharpened the artistic profile of the Musikfest Bremen, underlining its distinctive character within the international festival landscape. Around 25,000 people attended this year's festival, which had a total capacity of 27,400 seats. This means we achieved a 91 per cent attendance rate for the 48 events, more than a third of which were sold out. This encouraging result underlines the unique position of the Musikfest Bremen as the cultural flagship of late summer, extending beyond Bremen and north-west Germany.« Commenting on the financial situation, Managing Director Norbert Kölle said: »The Musikfest Bremen has once again demonstrated that, with a comparatively small budget, it is capable of bringing the world’s most renowned artists from various genres to Bremen and presenting a festival programme of international calibre.« Artistic Director Professor Thomas Albert emphasised the importance of the festival concerts as venues for stimulating exchange: »In these turbulent times, music, with its stirring power, has once again demonstrated its incredible ability to broaden horizons, provide inspiration, and instil optimism and confidence.«
The 38th Musikfest Bremen is scheduled to take place from 21 August to 11 September 2027.
