The Musikfest Bremen mourns the loss of Bremen Honorary Citizen Uwe Hollweg

The Musikfest Bremen team mourns the loss of its friend and patron Uwe Hollweg, who passed away on 9 December at the age of 87.

With the Karin und Uwe Hollweg Stiftung (Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation) he and his wife founded, he has provided continuous support to the Musikfest Bremen since 2014. This enabled projects to be realised that were among the highlights the previous festival seasons and made Bremen a major cultural landmark. In particular, many of the opera productions such as »Orfeo ed Euridice«, »Tancredi«, »La clemenza di Tito«, »Les contes d'Hoffmann«, »Così fan tutte«, »Rigoletto« and »Il trovatore«, some of which were the only performances in Germany, as well as the first Bremen guest performance of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim in August 2024, would not have been possible without the commitment of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation. Musikfest director Prof Thomas Albert: »With the death of Uwe Hollweg, we have lost a close friend and exemplary patron. As a passionate art and music devotee, he was always first and foremost interested in the content and with his pleasant modesty, in keeping with his Hanseatic identity, he never made a big fuss about his generous support that made the projects he selected possible. With great gratitude for his work, our sincere condolences go to his wife and daughters.«
