Programme:
»Far from the Beautiful Earth – a Schubert Evening«
with texts by Karl Kraus, Joseph Roth, Gottfried Benn, Alfred Kerr, Kurt Tucholsky, Stefan Zweig et al.
Round number two for the music salons, a combination of song recital and readings in an intimate atmosphere, conceived by Georg Nigl as a school of listening. Something to heighten the senses. The setting of the city hall’s elegant fireplace room is ideal for concentration, creating a closeness between artists and audience that is not attainable in a large concert hall. This allows Georg Nigl to explore a vast universe between singing and declamation, while Alexander Gergelyfi accompanies him in intuitive and delicate harmony on the clavichord, a precursor of the fortepiano. This lends the compositions a touching simplicity, which is in turn in perfect harmony with the carefully selected texts, poignantly recited by actor Sven-Eric Bechtolf. After Mozart and Bach last year, this time Shakespeare and Schubert are at the centre of these experimental salons, with their beguiling blend of gently delicate sounds – the verdict: very precious!
