The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is one of the world’s leading orchestras, captivating audiences worldwide with its distinctive sound. The orchestra has been led by the Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi as its artistic director since 2004.
A highlight of their collaboration was the landmark Beethoven project, which received international acclaim for its performances and recordings. This was followed by a phenomenal cycle of works by Schumann and Brahms.

A particular highlight of the Brahms project was the internationally acclaimed performance of the Requiem on 10 April 2018 in Bremen Cathedral, exactly 150 years after its world premiere. »A landmark recording«, as Die Zeit put it, which »will continue to resonate for a long time to come” (hr2 kultur). In October 2019, the award-winning »The Brahms Code« was released, a Deutsche Welle/Unitel TV/DVD documentary about the Brahms project.

Their current project, which began in autumn 2021, focuses on Joseph Haydn’s London symphonies. For the first CD, released in 2023, the orchestra received the »Orchestra of the Year« award from the British magazine Gramophone and the Opus Klassik in the same category. The NDR/Deutsche Welle documentary titled »Die Haydn Expedition« and the second CD were released in the winter of 2024. Further recordings are planned.

Although the Haydn project is still ongoing, the orchestra and conductor have also been working on the Viennese composer Franz Schubert’s symphonies. The orchestra’s first concerts in Asia and Europe were enthusiastically received by audiences and the press alike. »In Schubert, the transparency of the orchestra’s sound is on a par with their interpretation of Beethoven«, writes the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. And for the Austrian daily Der Standard, the concert at the Vienna Musikverein was »… nothing less than one of the most outstanding and moving concerts in recent decades«. The first CD featuring Schubert’s 4th and 7th symphonies was released in December 2025.

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has won several awards, including the Echo, Opus and Diapason d’Or, for its recordings and for its unique Future Lab, which is a driving force for social development and is now a worldwide movement.
In addition to Paavo Järvi, the young finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski became the first Principal Guest Conductor in the orchestra’s history in 2023. The orchestra has developed close musical friendships with international soloists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Lang Lang, Janine Jansen, Igor Levit and Hilary Hahn over the years.

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been one of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg’s resident orchestras since its opening in 2017, and has been the Kölner Philharmonie’s resident orchestra for many years. In 2019, the orchestra became the first »orchestra in residence« at the Rheingau Music Festival, receiving the Rheingau Music Prize in recognition of its pioneering projects and its contribution to musical interpretation.
