Giuseppe Verdi: Arias, overtures, and interludes from »La forza del destino«, »La traviata«, »Il trovatore«, »Don Carlos«, »Otello« and others
It was one of the absolute highlights of the 2019 Musikfest Bremen. When Patricia Petibon fell ill, Nicole Chevalier stepped in and triumphed as Violetta Valéry in Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. With her dazzling coloratura soprano voice, brimming with passion, her flawless diction and her dramatic flair, Nicole Chevalier eclipsed everything else. The extraordinary American artist demonstrated that, for her, singing is not just vocal acrobatics, but a means of expressing intense emotions. This makes her the perfect fit for the female characters in Verdi’s operas, whose emotional conflicts and fates in a hostile, male-dominated world are held up by the composer as a mirror to societal norms and constraints. The Bremen Philharmonic and its principal conductor Marko Letonja have already captivated audiences at the last two festivals with Gioacomo Puccini, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. This time, they will dive into the intoxicating world of Verdi’s music, allowing Nicole Chevalier to breathe intense drama and deeply moving emotions into her characters!
