Sarah Willis joined the Berlin Philharmonic as a horn player in 2001 and was drawn to Cuban music through her love of salsa. She first travelled to Havana in 2017 to give a masterclass, which is when she became involved in the local music scene. Together with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra, an ensemble made up of former music students, and conductor José Antonio Méndez Padrón, she successfully launched the project »Mozart y Mambo«. It is an unorthodox, vibrant encounter between the Old and the New World, a meeting between Mozart’s works and traditional Cuban music such as Salsa, Mambo and Son. With original compositions and arrangements, Mozart’s playful levity becomes one with the Cuban zest for life. The result? A concert bursting with magical music, energetic rhythms and heartfelt passion that exudes summer vibes and lifts your spirits!
