Jan Liebermann
Jan Liebermann, born in 2005, is already considered one of the most promising young organists. He has devoted himself to his art for years. He started taking piano lessons at the age of seven and began playing the organ at the age of twelve. He studied with Gerhard Gnann at the University of Music in Mainz and with Carsten Wiebusch at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. At the same time, he took piano lessons in Lev Natochenny’s master class and is currently studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
Having won numerous competitions, Liebermann already boasts an impressive career with concerts at Freiberg Cathedral, the Essen Philharmonie, St Michael’s Church in Hamburg, Müpa Budapest and Freiburg Minster. On his UK tours, he has performed at York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, King’s College Cambridge, Exeter Cathedral, Truro Cathedral, Selby Abbey and Southwark Cathedral.
In spring 2024, Jan Liebermann caused a sensation in the organ world by performing all six of Bach’s trio sonatas from memory at several public concerts. In recognition of his artistic achievements and dedication, the Mainz Rotary Club awarded him the 2024 Cultural Award. Just a year later, he turned his attention to performing all of Marcel Dupré’s Trois Préludes et Fugues, which he also played from memory in multiple public concerts. Also in 2025, he was awarded the Deutschlandfunk young artist’s award at the Musikfest Bremen: the jury attested that, with remarkable maturity and musical creativity, he demonstrated most impressively what is possible on the organ, the most technically demanding of all classical instruments. In 2025, he also made his solo debut at the Berlin Philharmonie, where he also performed with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Andris Nelsons and in a duo with principal flutist Emmanuel Pahud.
